hehe yeah not bad.
check out the charleston 1920's, you'll see much the same steps, the sliding foot moves are actually just ballroom dancing standard moves, but without a partner.

Re: Garry do you know about this?
If you're looking for the real thing, this is it. It's not from Melbourne, I don't have a clue where it's from USA I'd guess from areas with a celtic heritage.
This is the dance tradition of Melbourne. We've been doing it exactly like this since the 1850's gold rush.
Every town across the state has a dance hall/community hall with wooden boards for danceing. Many around 100 years ago actually had springs under the floor to give you extra bounce. I kid you not, like little car springs under the bearers.
They were strong enough to hold 1000 people thumping up and down in time with the music. Like a giant water bed or some thing. Can you imagine after a few hours of drinking...
anyhow, this combination of live communal music that just repeats for hours with fresh muso's rotating all night long, just like the dancers, goes back centuries.
You can dance in pairs, groups or solo ALL AT THE SAME TIME. It's never one or the other, everybody is included all ages, just sit and enjoy the company, dance, play whatever. Good friends good times it's not rocket science. Melbourne kids grow up in this sort of extended family type atmosphere.
All the migrant communities would have the same sort of thing, It keeps the traditions alive for people who no longer live in their home land. We speak over 200 languages everyday in Melbourne. It's our cultural history, that is the shuffle. It's like a story telling tradition except it's with dance and music. We dance the same steps in the same manner just like our ancestors 800+ years ago
It's also the way you would learn the music. Younger players would sit in with more experienced ones and learn the basic dance sets. This is how I learnt the songs, all by ear, no written music. Just like learning shuffle steps. You watch, you try. btw that's me playing guitar on the official trailer track too.
I have my great uncles hand written note book when he came out from Sweden in the 1880's to Melbourne's gold rush. It was exactly like this, except on the ships deck every night, and they had scottish sword dancing too with pipes.
You would see this, like in the clip, every weekend all across Melbourne. Someones backyard, a local dance hall, I made a living for a decade playing in live bands like this in the 1970's, and toured the country in pubs and bars, it ended with disco in the late 1970's, and was rediscovered by a new generation who learnt this stuff as kids It was taught in primary schools too. It was just how everybody danced, and you can dance to any sort of music.
Try shuffling to the music, you'll be stunned how easy it is to flow. Just start tapping your foot, then combine two feet like you're playing drums.
Then stand up and do it...piece of cake

Re: Garry do you know about this?
I should add, that while we might have grown up in this sort of environment in the clip, we tended to shuffle in a funkier atmosphere and to electronic dance music at 120 db.
