'STREET PROTESTS BEGIN 6am 7 April 2014 - TURN YOUR BACK ON THE BIG MAC'

This is bastardry by McDonalds literally bulldozing local family businesses that have been there for decades to build a 24 hr macca's in a residential neighbourhood that we locals don't want and for a surprising change the local council doesn't want it either. But jack-boot thuggery is the way our corrupt state Liberal party runs things, the pissant Labor party is silent. The courts ruled that we and our concerns were "irrelevant" and gave maccas legal, but unjust, unfair and immoral permission to build.
Join the people of the hills to protest this destruction of our community. Go to macca's in Ferntree Gully instead, they're good franchise people, boycott Boronia too, it belongs to this same Tecoma guy.
This is a dangerous legal precedent that means No small business is safe from predatory corporations, the state Liberal party who says it supports small business, in fact this proves it, it either doesn't or it can't because it's too weak, either way, there is no future in Victoria with the Liberal Party.

Tecoma is a peaceful village in the Dandenong Ranges, 40 kilometres east of Melbourne, with a population of 2085 residents. The Dandenong Ranges are where Melbourne’s leafy eastern suburbs meet the mountains and forests. Protected parklands and National Parks preserve the natural beauty of this area which includes valleys and hills covered in thick temperate rainforest and dense ferny undergrowth. It’s a bushwalking and cycling paradise with extensive trails through lush vegetation.
From the peak of Mount Dandenong are panoramic views of the city, while the surrounding villages offer boutique accommodation, galleries, markets, beautiful gardens and many plant nurseries. The Puffing Billy steam train runs between Belgrave, Emerald and Gembrook, taking in the scenic landscape of the Dandenong Ranges
.
Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the Dandenong Ranges each year to experience life away from suburbia, away from mass development, noise and pollution. Locals live there for the same reasons.
• In 2011, McDonald’s lodged a planning application for a 24 hour outlet with drive thru in Tecoma.
• This application was met with a record number of 1,170 written objections directed at local Council by Hills residents.'No'
• On October 11th 2011, local Councillors met and voted on the proposed development. 650 local residents attended to hear the decision and once again voice their objections.
• The Shire of Yarra Ranges Council UNANIMOUSLY rejected the proposal.
• The McDonald’s Corporation then escalated the application to VCAT (Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal) for review.
• On October 10th 2012, VCAT overruled Yarra Ranges Council’s decision, deeming the overwhelming objections of the local community as “irrelevant“, and granted McDonald’s planning permission.
• On Sunday October 14th 2012, within 4 days of this decision being passed, approximately 600 local residents united to ‘Reclaim Tecoma’ and planted a Community Garden at the proposed site.
• A month long 24 hour peaceful vigil was maintained at the garden until police eviction in November 2012.
• The community sought independent legal advice from Barristers and Solicitors specialising in planning, and a high profile Melbourne QC, in order to establish grounds for a Supreme Court appeal.
• Grounds for appeal were established, and the community sent hundreds of letters and emails to Yarra Ranges Councillors requesting that they appeal the decision at the Supreme Court.
• A motion for a Supreme Court appeal was raised at the next Council meeting, in response to the community’s concerns, but was in turn rejected by a majority of Councillors who claimed that appealing the ruling at the Supreme Court would not be a “responsible” way to spend Council funds.

Re: BurgerOff - Tecoma Australia
The protest has started, Rupert Murdoch's paper the Herald Sun supports the bastard operator, suggesting this protest is just a small group of nutters.
Well Murdoch is a has-been with no authority or respect in this town. This franchise owner Currie, is a greedy heartless sh*t, with no concern for locals, just his fat bank account. He owns the Boronia and Wantirna McDonalds, we boycott those businesses as well.
We suggest you go to the Ferntree Gully McDonalds where good and respectful McDonalds franchise owners operate.
The McDonalds corporation have demonstrated that they are bastards in business, with no concern of the locals or local family business, they are happy to support a bastard who destroys local family business for his own profit, they do not deserve your money or patronage, they do not deserve to be in business in this country
-------------------
For small business and family business owners, YOU ARE NOT SAFE ANYMORE, McDonalds, or any international chain store can with this sh*t Victorian government and piss-weak Prime minister Tony Abbott, burn your business to the ground and drive you into unemployment, and you can't do a thing, but cry.
You're next !!! Do something now !!

Re: BurgerOff - Tecoma Australia
WE WIN - KINDA
Planning Minister Mathew Guy who has a history of totally bungling planning in sensitive environmental areas, such as unwelcomed development in Phillip Island, defends himself by saying that he didn't know about Tecoma macca's until it was too late - maybe we should of asked Miley Cyrus to tweet her concern like she did a while back, that certainly made Guy jump into action
But this time the unpleasant reality that Guy and his Liberal party leader Tony Abbott have now dropped in the latest poll, down 4 points, that's a major loss, and would mean a change of government in Victoria with millions of hostile voters wanting politicians fronting courts for crimes.
How desperate are Labor with this ? Well local Labor lay-about James Merlino has his big billboard trailer driving slowly past my front door saying only he can save the hills - forgetting that all this bastardisation has happened on his watch and that I'm NOT even in his electorate, I can't (and wouldn't) vote for him !
So anyhow seems panic has set in and finally politicans are listening to voters - about time seeing as it's election years and the election is in 7 months, and if both the Labor and liberal politicians who share the electoral boundary that Tecoma Macca's sits on, are voted out (highly likely) and local independents put in representing local people with local concerns, then we of the hills will control the balance of power in Victorian Government and can start formal inquiries into corruption and crime in the government. That's why they're rightly worried.
----------------------------
Fast food drive-throughs will have fat chance of setting up shop in the tranquil Yarra Ranges after planning changes approved by the Napthine government.
The Shire of Yarra Ranges has become the first Victorian municipality to restrict drive-throughs after Planning Minister Matthew Guy approved a bid to block new car-friendly restaurants.
The move follows a long-running battle over the construction of a controversial McDonald's restaurant in Tecoma, which opened for the first time last week, to the dismay of locals.
The changes explicitly discourage drive-throughs in Belgrave, Tecoma, Mount Dandenong, Kallista, Olinda and Sassafras.
''This will make it much more difficult for fast food chains to set up drive-throughs in the area,'' Mr Guy said.
Protesters in the serene town of Tecoma have been campaigning against the McDonald's push for a 24-hour restaurant since 2011 and have vowed to continue their fight until the restaurant closes.
The council amendment, which comes into effect this week, ensures new commercial developments respond to the town's existing character and enhance amenity. ''Buildings and works that comprise drive-through sales facilities are discouraged,'' it says.
Mr Guy said he was unable to intervene in McDonald's push for a Tecoma restaurant because he was unaware of the issue until it went to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
''Once there is a decision by VCAT I cannot overturn it,'' he said. ''There are tens of thousands of permits every year and I am not aware of them all.''
In 2011 the council unanimously voted against the fast food giant's proposal to open a 24-hour restaurant, with the application attracting 1170 written objections. But McDonald's successfully appealed the decision in VCAT.
Mr Guy said it would have been ''much more difficult'' for McDonald's to obtain a permit for its Tecoma restaurant if the planning amendment had been in place.
