We'll definitely be having a meetup as well. We'll be working with the film festival (if they accept us of course) to find somewhere near the cinema for meetups before the movie and afterwards.

This will be done a few months before the festival so we'll let you know in advance, and get some feedback from locals about suitable sites etc.

I wish hehe, nah demf is only interested in electronic dance music, not dancing or dance film. Basically it's dj culture. They kinda forget about the 'dance' part of 'dance music'. It's treated as a music genre and being able to dance to it is sadly considered irrelivent. Not just demf of course, but rave culture in general. How many dj's do you see actually dancing on stage or ...ever !? Smile

An oldskool friend of mine from Melbourne, Richard Maher (RMA) is Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson's international agent. I met them when both guys came down to Melbourne (a lot) in the mid/late 1990's to our parties. Both great guys, but it's music first, which is fair enough for music producers. - I should add for new readers, that I am primarily a musician and composer of art dance music. I play keyboards and synths Wink

But all that will change with Global Shuffle, a dance event specifically for dancers and dance.

That said, if demf had dance film screenings (in a cinema, not as moving wallpaper for a club to a dj's soundtrack), we'd certainly be submitting.

Is there any screenings you know of ? Can't find any info on the site.

Very informed and wise insights, I'd expect no less. And true no DJs actually dance to they're own music while its being played. I just wanted the honor of meeting you guys sooner.

I'll be there you can bet on it. Sides around the club I'm pretty much the only one who shuffles so naturally I'd wanna get better not to show people up but to help the "movement". And the only way I get better is practice and dancing with people better than me.

That's pretty much the way it was learnt before youtube, just a bunch of shufflers showing each other their moves.

It's that oldskool experience we hope to share on the tour. It's different to a dance party, it's far more social. People have breaks, get something to eat, make new friends and shuffle at will. It's a great time to show off new moves, get tips from each other, excellent place for sussing out crews too.

In bigger meet-ups 100+ there tend to be 3-4 smaller circles with different styles and you wander between them learning moves. Some crews will do demos and recruit.

So it's the business end of shuffling too.

The submission service for this film festival has been deactivated and there's no further news about the 2011 festival on their official site. It may have closed down.

We'll keep looking. But sadly it looks doubtful for the Detroit Indie Film Fest, March 2011 at this stage.
