T-step? Empty T-step?

Post by Frequency Wed 06 Jun 2012, 06:53

I've noticed in a lot of hardstyle videos when the shuffler transitions from the RM to the t-step they don't t-step.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDg_0Qrr6_o&feature=plcp

In this video if you look at 1:21 his right foot just slides across the ground with no t-step.

Is it just to cover more ground quickly or what? It's weird to me.

Also I'm not trying to say he's bad at shuffling or anything, he's great, it's just weird to me xD.

It doesn't look weird or bad..it's just a weird concept for me lol. I was just interested in why he was doing it, and the only explanation I could think of was covering more ground quickly.

The t-step is just a guideline for beginners. I think it's just part of his style because it looks like he does it a lot. The more you shuffle, the more you'll develop little things like that. As for why he does it in the first place, I couldn't really tell you. Maybe it's just more comfortable or something.

It might be more comfortable..not sure. This video is just one I pointed out, but a lot of shufflers do it, I just wanted to make a topic about it for more insight, thank you for your input.

I've seen a lot of shufflers use that technique to cover more ground.

Yeah that's what I thought it was for but I wanted more insight on it lol. I'll definitely practice it though, it's great for covering more ground quickly (compared to the t-step).

I actually sometimes do a small hop with my pivoting foot to cover more ground. I keep it close enough to the ground to maintain the same look though Smile

I shuffle like that, actually, I can't even do the T-step lol .. I do it to glide more efficiently, and I like it more. It takes less effort, but if your doing some major gliding it's extremely hard to keep your balance. It really is just a waste of time to T-step if your shuffling with phatties (in my opinion)

This shuffler is registered member of this forum Very Happy
And i like this kind of moving around, if you just want to take up more space. I think that this slide was made by shufflers who can't go to raves, and have a lot of space to shuffle. I think i will learn it too, because it's not that hard and looks good. But i like to call it side slide (or something like that). Laughing

Didn't know he was on here or I would have PM'd him haha.

But yeah I like that way of moving around as well so I'll probably spend more time on learning it.

It's called Gliding, it's a proper shuffle move, though the guy in the vid hasn't mastered it yet, but he's on the right track. The idea is to make it look like you're sliding on ice.

The shuffle foot (The T-step) does all the work moving your body across the floor, the gliding foot is to distract attention from the shuffle foot and appear to just glide across the floor effortlessly. It's a pretty smooth move (pun intended)

Shifter Hardstyle Prodigy from JB Malaysia do it a lot in GS1

You'll find great examples of gliding here on their youtube channel, some clips going way back to 2007 !
https://www.youtube.com/user/iqalshifter

The style with the gliding is part of the reason I understand, that shuffling translates as the 'Ghost Dance' in Chinese and some other asian languages, because ghosts in those cultures don't have feet they just hover and glide over the ground. So the Gliding gives this impression, especially when you wear phats that cover your feet a lot and it just looks like you glide everywhere.
