If you're just wearing regular shoes or sneakers it's not that big a deal but avoid running shoes and anything with an extra amount of grip Very Happy

If you only have running shoes you can try sprinkling some baby powder or something on the ground before you start shuffling or put tape under the shoes, both things are done by shufflers and it's supposed to be helpful, I'm hoping it works cause as it happens I only have running shoes to xD

I'm of the opinion that technique is more important then equipment. Get the movements into your muscles before shuffling in shoes. Once you get your technique right most lightweight shoes will work fine.

Personally I would say that choice of surface is more important then choice as that will have much more impact on your ease of movement. My general advice to anyone wanting to learn to shuffle is to practice wearing socks on a smooth surface.

That said shoes can still have a significant effect on your shuffling. Generally you will get the most benefit from shoes that hold their shape well so that the power being transferred from your foot to the floor doesn't get lost in unintended shoe movement. ie when you put your foot down it moves sideways, bending the walls of the shoe and sliding off the sole. Also, lightweight shoes are always perfurable as it makes your feet easier to move in general. If I had to think of a spesific design style I would have to say that "Converse Lowtop-like" shoes with soles that are joined to the walls of the shoe with lips are a good combination of structural integrity and lightness. Have a look at the shoes in the MSO store for an idea of what I mean.
